
KULGAM — A woman died on Tuesday in a Srinagar hospital 17 days after her son passed away following a suffocation incident in Gudder area of southern Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
An unnamed official, quoted by the news agency JKNS, said that a woman, who was hospitalised due to suffocation on January 2, succumbed to her injuries 17 days after her son passed away in the asphyxiation incident in Gudder area.
The deceased, Fameeda Akhter, and her 25-year-old son, Nisar Ahmad Khan, were found unconscious on January 2 at their home in Gudder area due to suffocation caused by charcoal fire fumes. They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors referred them to SKIMS Soura for advanced treatment.
“Unfortunately, Nisar Ahmad lost his life two days after the incident, and despite prolonged treatment, his mother, Fameeda Akhter, passed away today,” the official added.
A total of 19 deaths were reported across Jammu and Kashmir due to asphyxiation and with today’s death, the death toll due to suffocation reached 20.
