Nocturnal gunfight rages in Ratnipora village of Pulwama

SRINAGAR — A nocturnal gunfight raged between militants and government forces in Ratnipora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday.

Reports reaching here said that a joint team of Army’s 50RR, 183/182 BN of CRPF and SOG Pulwama launched a cordon and search operation in Ratnipora around 3:00 AM after having credible input about the presence of some militants in the area.

As the joint team of forces closed in towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon government forces triggering an encounter.

A senior Police official also confirmed about contact established with the hiding militants.

As per the sources, two to three militants are believed to be trapped. Till this story was filed, exchange of firing was going on.

As per local sources, with the news of encounter in the area, youth from different areas of Pulwama district assembled and started pelting stones on government forces which is being retialated by tear smoke shells.

A local source said that clashes are going on from all four sides of the encounter site.
