
SHOPIAN — Three militants have been killed in a gunfight with government forces in Sugoo Handhama area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday.
Inspector General of Police (Kashmir Zone) Vijay Kumar said that three militants were killed in the operation. However, he said, the identity of the slain militants was yet to be ascertained.
Its pertinent to mention that a total of 12 militants have been killed in Shopian district alone since June 07 including two commanders.
Meanwhile, mobile Internet has been suspended in Shopian district for precautionary measures.
Earlier, according to the reports reaching here, a joint team of Police, Army’s 44RR and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Sugoo Handhama.
As the joint team approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering an encounter.
