Police officer shot at in Khanyar Srinagar
The slain policeman has been identified as Sub-Inspector Arshad Ashraf Mir

SRINAGAR — A police officer was shot at from point blank range in Khanyar area of Srinagar. Soon afterwards, the officer succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS Soura.

CCTV footage, which is viral, shows that an unidentified pistol-borne youth follows the police officer shortly after he comes out from a shop. The pistol-borne youth, as per CCTV footage, fires upon the officer from behind and runs away.

The slain policeman has been identified as Sub-Inspector Arshad Ashraf Mir who was posted at Police Station Khanyar Srinagar.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of wreath-laying ceremony of the deceased cop at DPL Srinagar, as per the news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the DGP said that all the previous modules of militants involved in pistol shooting were wiped out, while it seems that a new group has been formed.

“I would not like to disclose about the outfit or module behind today’s attack but the perpetrators have been identified and will be brought to justice soon,” he said.

The DGP said the slain cop was committed to his duties and his loss was a big jolt to the police family.
