Protesters seek release of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq

SRINAGAR — The continuous house detention of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq sparked a protest outside historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar while protesters demanded the release of the religious preacher.

The protest was organized by Anjuman-e-Auqaf, Jamia Masjid.

Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Umar Farooq is facing house detention from past over one year.

The protesters said that Mirwaiz should be released forthwith so that he resumes his religious responsibilities from the pulpit of the historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar.

They said that Mirwaiz is under arbitrary house arrest since August 05, 2019, “and is not allowed to move out and meet people and pursue his religious and political activities.”
