Pulwama Police apprehend suspect with hand grenade in joint operation

PULWAMA — In a major breakthrough, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district apprehended a suspect on Monday, recovering a hand grenade and other incriminating materials.

The successful joint operation was carried out by the Pulwama Police, the Indian Army’s 44 Rashtriya Rifles, and the 183 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

According to official reports, the security personnel had established a joint checkpoint (naka) along the Drabgam–Pachar Road. During routine checking, an individual approaching from Drabgam towards Pachhar exhibited suspicious behaviour. Upon noticing the heightened security presence, the man abruptly attempted to flee the area. Alert personnel swiftly gave chase and overpowered the suspect near the Fruit Mandi on Pachhar Road.

Authorities have identified the accused as Touseef Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Hameed Dar, a resident of Drabgam Payeen. A search of his person led to the recovery of a hand grenade, three anti-national posters, and a mobile phone.

Following the apprehension, a formal case was registered at the Police Station Rajpora. The accused has been booked under FIR No. 107/2026, which includes Sections 7 and 25 of the Arms Act, alongside Sections 13, 18, 23, and 39 of the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Police have taken up the case to ascertain the exact source of the recovered explosive and to identify any broader network or terror linkages the suspect may have.

In a statement following the arrest, Pulwama Police reiterated that they will continue to take firm, uncompromising action against individuals involved in unlawful and anti-national activities.
