SRINAGAR — State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) on Tuesday retrieved the body of a 24-year-old youth who had drowned in river Jhelum in Kakapora area in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

The rescue operation was launched Monday morning after the native youth fell into the river while extracting sand.

Identifying the youth as one Manzoor Ahmad, son of Mushtaq Ahmed Murad resident of Hayatpora area of Chadoora in Budgam, an official said that soon after receiving information, a team of SDRF assisted by civilians launched an operation to trace the youth.

However, with no success made for the day, the operation was suspended for the night and resumed this morning, he said.

The body of youth was finally found this afternoon after hours of hectic searches in the water body, he added.

Meanwhile, a police official confirming the recovery of the youth said that the body has been handed over to the family after conduct of necessary medico-legal formalities.
