
KUPWARA — In a swift operation less than 24 hours after a previous security manoeuvre, authorities in the border town of Kupwara apprehended another militant associate found in possession of arms and ammunition.
Sources disclosed to a Srinagar-based news agency that police detained Asif Mushtaq Wani, son of Mushtaq Ahmed Wani from Galizoo Kupwara, during a surprise checkpoint operation jointly conducted by Kupwara Police, PC Kupwara, 47 Rashtriya Rifles, and 162 Central Reserve Police Force near BEd college Dragmullah.
According to reports, Wani attempted to evade capture upon noticing the presence of the joint security forces party, but was apprehended after a determined pursuit.
A subsequent search of the suspect led to the discovery of a Chinese-made pistol, along with one pistol magazine and six rounds of ammunition in his possession.
An official confirmed the incident, stating that a case FIR number 37/2024 has been registered under relevant sections of the law at Police Station Kupwara, with investigations currently underway.
The arrest follows a similar operation on Thursday afternoon, during which security forces detained another militant associate in Gundimacher area of Kupwara.
