Six injured after shell goes off accidentally in Handwara

HANDWARA — At least six persons were injured after an explosive substance went off accidentally in Ahgam village of north Kashmir’s Handwara district.

Ahgam is just five kilometers away from the Chanjmohalla forest area that witnessed a bloody encounter on Saturday evening. Five security personnel including a policeman and a Colonel were killed in the encounter. Two militants also died in the said gunfight.

Eyewitnesses said that a shell lying on the road went off suddenly, resulting in the injuries to six persons.

Confirming the incident, a medico at sub district hospital in the area said that two persons have sustained leg injuries and they were shifted to Srinagar hospital while four others are being treated in the local hospital.

A police official said that they are ascertaining the facts.
