Militant associates arrested by J&K Police in Srinagar grenade attack case

SRINAGAR — Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday said that they have solved Sunday’s grenade attack in Srinagar by arresting three militant associates. The attack, which occurred in a crowded flea market, injured 12 civilians, including a critically wounded woman and man from northern Kashmir’s Bandipora.

Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone, VK Birdi revealed that the three associates – Osama Yasin Sheikh, Umar Fayaz Sheikh and Afnan Ahmed from Srinagar’s Ikhrajpora – were arrested after gathering evidence.

Birdi explained that on November 3, militants lobbed a grenade, seriously injuring Abida from Bandipora, who was with her kids, and Habibullah, the sole breadwinner for his family, who has a bedridden son.

The Srinagar Police cracked the case, unearthing the trio’s affiliation with Lashkar-e-Taiba and their connection to Pakistan-based handlers seeking to disrupt Kashmir’s peace.

The arrested associates have been booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and are currently lodged at Srinagar’s Kothibagh Police Station.
