SRINAGAR — A policeman who was critically injured on Tuesday in a “brief shootout” with militants near Zoonimar area of central Kashmir’s Srinagar district lost the battle for life at SKIMS Soura, officials said.

A top police officer told GNS that the constable Aamir Hussian, who had bullets injuries in the upper parts of the body including the neck, succumbed to the wounds. “Even though doctors tried their best and revived him for several minutes, he has passed away.”

A senior doctor at SKIMS, Dr G H Yatoo, also confirmed to GNS the 30-year-old policeman has died.

Earlier, the police officer said that there was a brief shootout in which the policeman was critically injured and later shifted to nearby SKIMS Soura.

The officer said that a militant was also injured and probably escaped from the spot.

Meanwhile, he said, the whole area has been cordoned off to nab the fleeing militant(s).
