SRINAGAR — Police on Saturday said that three associates of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen were arrested in Kulgam district of south Kashmir.

“Yesterday at about 1719 hours, based on specific input regarding movement of anti-national elements carrying illegal arms and ammunition in a vehicle, police parties of PC Hatipora and Police Station Behibagh established a specific checkpoint at Daderkoot, Alamganj crossing and intercepted three persons riding a motorcycle bearing registration number JK22-8034,” a police spokesperson said, adding, “During search, arms and ammunition including a pistol, two magazines and 13 live pistol rounds were recovered from their possession.”

They have been identified as Mohammad Abbas Wagay son of Mohammad Ramzan Wagay of Wuyan Imamsahab; Gowhar Shafi Mir son of Mohammad Shafi Mir and Nisar Rehman Sheikh son of Abdul Rahman Sheikh, both residents of DK Pora Shopian. “They have been arrested and shifted to the police station where they remain in custody.”

During the course of the investigation, he said, it came to the fore that the arrested associates were involved in many cases and were providing logistic and other support to the militants.

“In this regard, a case vide FIR No. 05/2023 under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Behibagh and further investigation into the matter has been initiated,” he added.
