
SRINAGAR — Two Army soldiers were killed after militants attacked the Quick Reaction Team (QRT) of security forces in HMT outskirts of Srinagar district on Thursday.
An official said that a Maruti car-borne militants fired indiscriminately upon a QRT of Army at Aban Shah Chowk in HMT area of Srinagar outskirts, which left two soldiers critically injured.
The injured duo was immediately rushed to hospital; however they succumbed while on the way to the hospital.
The slain Army men were identified as Rattan Singh and Yaish Deshmukh from Sharifa Abad unit of Army’s Kilo Force.
Meanwhile, Inspector General Police (Kashmir range), Vijay Kumar said that two to three Maruti car-borne militants fired upon Army men near HMT on Srinagar-Baramulla highway, leaving the duo dead.
“Security forces are chasing the car involved in the attack and apparently, it seems that the Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit has carried out the attack,” he said.
“There may have been one or two militants among the attackers. We will ascertain by evening, which outfit is behind the attack,” he added.
“Being a crowded area, our troops exercised restraint to avoid any civilian casualty and collateral damage,” said a Defence spokesperson.
He added that the government forces have launched a massive manhunt to track down the assailants.
