SRINAGAR — Two militants were killed in an encounter at Dangerpora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday. A senior police officer said that the bodies of the militants were recovered from under the debris of the houses during the search operation.
Besides the bodies, some arms and ammunition and other incriminating material have been recovered, he said. “In this connection, a case under relevant Sections of law was registered and further investigations were taken up,” he said.
He said that the identity and the group affiliation of the slain duo are being ascertained. The officer said that the searches are going on at the encounter site as police suspect the presence of one more body.
The officer said that the gunfight broke out soon after the joint team of Army’s 55 RR, SOG and CRPF 182 bn, 183 bn launched a cordon-and-search operation in the village today during wee hours following inputs about the presence of militants.
Meanwhile, reports said that several persons received minor injuries during clashes near the encounter site. A police constable also suffered injuries during the stone-pelting clashes in the area.
Following the gunfight, the authorities have suspended mobile (2G) internet service in the southern district.
