
SRINAGAR — Police in Awantipora on Friday claimed to have arrested two drug peddlers and recovered contraband substance from their possession.
Police spokesman, in a statement, said that officers at a checkpoint established at Dogripora near Railway Crossing intercepted a vehicle (Alto) bearing registration number JK04D-4088 with two persons on board.
They have been identified as Muntazir Ahmad Sheikh son of Ali Mohammad and Mohammad Yousuf Khan son of Mohammad Qasim Khan, both residents of Gopalpora Budgam.
“During checking, officers were able to recover 1.150 kgs of contraband substance (Cannabis sticks) from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to PS Awantipora where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized,” police said.
Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 04/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Awantipora and further investigation has been initiated.
Meanwhile, police urged people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. “Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law,” police said.
