KUPWARA — Police in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday claimed to have apprehended two militants belonging to Jaish-e-Muhammad outfit from a car along with arms and ammunition.

In a statement, police said that they received a specific input that two militants of Sopore vicinity affiliated with Jaish-e-Muhammad outfit are likely to visit Kupwara to recruit new youth in Jaish ranks.

“Acting on the specific input, Police and Army’s 47 RR established joint Nakas at different locations in the district and intercepted a car bearing Registration Number JK05G-0872 near FCI Godown at Drugmulla Kupwara and apprehended two militants namely Waseem Irshad Gabroo of Takyabal Arampora Sopore and Mehraj-ud-din Wani of Badshah Masjid Sopore from a car along with arms, ammunition and cash,” the statement added.

Joint forces also claimed to have recovered one AK-47, one magazine, two grenades, 30 AK rounds, and 7 lakh cash from the possession of apprehended militants.

Meanwhile, a police official said that a case under FIR Number 233 under Section Indian Arms 13, 18, 19, 39 UAPA has been registered at Police Station Kupwara and investigations have been set into motion.
