Srinagar: Two Jaish-e-Mohammad militants were killed and two troopers including a CRPF officer were injured in an ongoing gunfight at Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday.

A police officer told GNS that a joint team of Army, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search operation at Hyuna village of Nazneenpora, Tral following specific information about the presence of some militants.

In the initial exchange of gunfire, a soldier and a CRPF officer suffered serious bullet wounds and were hospitalised, he said.

DGP SP Vaid also confirmed the killing of two militants in the ongoing operation.

“Encounter going on at Hyena Tral, 3 important JEM militants trapped, 2 apparently neutralized. Good luck to our boys fighting,” Vaid tweeted.

Pertinently, this is the first encounter in the area following the calling off of the unilateral ceasefire by the government of India in Kashmir during the month of Ramadhan. (GNS)
