SRINAGAR — A Lashker-e-Toiba militant was apprehended along with a pistol and ammunition in the orchards of Nikloora village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday.
A senior Police officer said that on a specific input generated by Pulwama Police, a CASO was launched jointly by Pulwama Police, 55RR of Army and 182 CRPF in the orchards of village Nikloora.
“Pulwama Police & SFs apprehended one categorised militant affiliated with proscribed militants outfit LeT namely Shamim Sofi S/O Gh Mohammad Sofi R/O Nikloora. Incriminating materials including arms & ammunition recovered,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.
He further added that during the search, one militant was spotted and challenged. “The militant was apprehended and one pistol and other ammunition were recovered from his possession.”
A case in this regard has been registered and investigation initiated, the officer added.
Police claim arrest of active militant from Shopian
Police on Friday apprehended one active Lashker-e-Toiba militant at Mujhmarg junction area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
In a statement, the police said that today on a specific input about the movement of militant planning an attack on security forces, a joint Naka by Shopian Police, 01 RR and CRPF BN 178 was established at Mujhmarg junction.
The statement further stated that at about 6:24 PM, an individual in a suspicious condition moved out of orchard. “On seeing the suspect, security forces challenged him but the suspect tried to fled away. The nearby security personnel immediately approached him and overpowered him.”
According to Police spokesperson, one live grenade and 29 live round of caliber 7.62 mm were recovered from his possession. “The apprehended suspect disclosed his name as Kamran Bashir Hajam son of Bashir Ahmed Hajam, resident of Babapora – an active militant of LeT.”
Accordingly, FIR No. 117/2021 lodged under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Zainapora. “Further questioning going on,” reads the statement.
Trio held with arms and ammunition in Kulgam
Police on Friday arrested three persons hailing from Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
On a specific input regarding the movement of militants, Kulgam Police along with 01 RR, 46Bn CRPF established a checkpoint at Malpora Mir Bazar Crossing area of Qazigund Kulgam.
“During checking, a motorcycle bearing registration No. JK13D-7659 and an Alto Car bearing registration No. JK13E-2492 with three persons on board were signalled to stop but they tried to flee from the spot. The search party chased and apprehended them tactfully,” Police said.
They have been identified as Aubaid Mushtaq son of Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, Aadil Jamal Bhat son of Mohd Jamal Bhat and Danish Rasool Bhat son of Gh Rasool Bhat, all residents of Dadsara Tral area of Awantipora.
It added, “During search, huge quantity of arms & ammunitions including one AK-Rifle, one AK-Magzine, four grenades, four detonators, one IED, one IED wire and 30 Pistol Rounds were recovered from their possession. Vehicles used in commission of crime have also been seized.”
In this connection, a case vide FIR No. 243/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Qazigund. “Further investigation of the case is in progress.”
