Two local militants killed in Sopore gunfight

Srinagar: One more militant has been killed in an operation at Drusoo village of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday.

With this killing, the death toll of militants reached two as the gunfight which started last night concluded this afternoon.

SSP Sopore Javaid Iqbal confirmed to GNS that both the militants were killed in the operation and said that the identity of the slain militants is being ascertained.

SSP had said that two Army soldiers and a policeman also received injuries during the operation.

Meanwhile, sources identified both the slain militants as Reyaz Ahmad of Naseerabad Sopore and Khursheed Ahmad Malik (B. Tech student) son of Ghulam Nabi Malik of Arabal Nikas, Pulwama who was missing since Tuesday morning.

Sources said that both the slain militants belonged to Al Badr militant outfit.

The gunfight broke out last night after a joint team of Army’s 22RR and SOG launched a search operation in the village. (GNS)
