SOPORE — Police on Thursday said that two newly recruited militants laid down their arms during a cordon and search operation in Tujjar area of Sopore town here in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

A source in police said that joint forces including soldiers from 22 Rashtriya Rifles cordoned off Tujjar area after receiving inputs about the presence of militants.

As the location of the militants was established, their family members were called in to persuade them to surrender and both the militants obliged.

Inspector General of Police, Vijay Kumar said that it is good to see young people shunning the path of violence and joining mainstream.

Reports said that both these militants (names withheld) had recently joined militant outfit Al-Badr. They are residents of Wadoora Sopore.
