Unknown gunmen shot dead Hurriyat activist in Shopian

Shopian: A Hurriyat activist was shot dead by unknown gunmen in an apple orchard here in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Witnesses said that unknown gunmen emerged in an orchard where Hurriyat activist was present and shot him dead.

Locals identified the slain as Molvi Tariq Ahmed Ganaie who was currently affiliated with Masrat Aalam-led Jammu Kashmir Muslim League.

Reports said that Tariq was an armed militant till 1996 and he was released two months ago by government after serving two years detention.

A police official said that a case has been registered and investigation taken up. (CNS)
