Videos of ‘Army informers’ admitting before ‘militants’ go viral on social media

Srinagar: Separate videos showing two youths admitting before militants, of being informers of the Army, have gone viral on social media.

The videos were purportedly released on Monday by militants and the two youth hailing from Trenz village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district are seen admitting to be informers of Army and sharing information about the presence of militants as a result of which some militants were either killed and arrested by government forces following encounters.

The youths namely Aijaz Ahmad Mir and Sheeraz Ahmad Malik were injured after shot at by militants on the evening of June 16.

The militants apparently have recorded their separate videos before firing upon them, and in the videos, the duo is seen admitting of having informed Army about the presence of militants several times which led to the encounter.

Aijaz is seen in the video confessing that his information to the Balpora Army camp led to encounters at two places in the southern district and subsequently the militants got trapped and killed.

Sheeraz is seen confessing of having informed Army about the presence of two militants in Trenz, however, both the militants managed to escape.

Asking the duo about their job as “informers”, the youth in the video say they are in touch with some girls and are in contact with a local soldier from Anantnag district.

On being asked by purported militants about the motive for being “informers”, Aijaz says the local soldier in Balpora Army unit assured him a job for providing the information about the militants.

Aijaz says the soldier took a photocopy of his Adhaar Card for the purpose of the job.

Meanwhile, police said that it has taken cognizance of the videos and has started investigations into it.

SSP Shopian, Shalinder Kumar Mishra said that the videos were the handiwork of militants to “terrorize” the local population. He said that a case has already been registered and investigations taken up. (GNS)
