SHOPIAN — A 21-year-old youth was allegedly murdered over a love affair in Shopian district of south Kashmir on Tuesday morning.
Police officials said that the body of Shahid Ahmed Ganie son of Manzoor Ahmed Ganie, resident of Urpora area in Shopian Nagbal, was found in Tukrwangam area of Shopian. Locals informed Police, who later took the body for legal formalities.
The family members of Shahid have alleged that he was murdered by the family of his girlfriend in Turkwangam, where Shahid had gone to meet his girlfriend.
“From the last five years, he was in a relationship with a girl from Tukrwangam. However, the family of the girl never accepted them together. They tried to create every possible hurdle in their relationship but the girl always supported and stood by him against the wishes of her family,” said one of the family members.
The case eventually went to the Police where it was mutually decided that they will be married. However, due to the intervention of elders of the village, the marriage that was scheduled in January was later called off.
“Both of them were in contact with each other. They wanted to marry each other. Last night, he had gone to meet the girl in the area and today his body was found in the surroundings of that area,” the slain’s family member alleged.
According to the official sources, FIR has been lodged in the concerned police station against the incident and further investigation has been initiated.
