Youth killed, another injured in forces action in Kupwara

Srinagar: A 20-year-old youth was killed while another injured in alleged government forces firing at Trehgam area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Tuesday.

Locals of Trehgam told GNS that Army allegedly opened fire after some youth pelted stones at their vehicles.

Two youth suffered injuries one of them namely Khalid Gafar (20) son of Abdul Gafar Malik suffered grave injuries and were taken to nearby hospital, they said.

However, Khalid, a shopkeeper by profession succumbed later, they said.

A police officer confirmed the death and said that investigations will reveal as to how and under what circumstances the incident took place.

Soon after the news about the youth’s killing spread, massive protests erupted in Trehgam and adjoining areas which were going on when this report was filed. (GNS)
