SRINAGAR — National Conference Vice-President Omar Abdullah on Thursday said that BJP will forget talking about the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) after facing defeat in all five Lok Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir.

The former chief minister made these remarks a day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the Centre is considering revocation of AFSPA and withdrawal of troops from Jammu and Kashmir.

“New Delhi is again mocking people of Jammu and Kashmir like they hoodwink people of Ladakh over Statehood and Sixth Schedule. The Union Home Minister Amit Shah has flagged up the AFSPA issue once again. This is all aimed at cheating the people of Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the Lok Sabha elections,” Omar Abdullah said, as per the news agency KNS, while addressing a people’s convention in northern Kashmir’s Sopore.

He added, “I am sure once BJP will face the wrath of people in all Lok Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir, they will again forget the matter of AFSPA and withdrawal of troops.”

“We have seen similar promises in the past but not a single one was fulfilled. These promises are political gimmicks of BJP,” he added.
