SRINAGAR — Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday said that the LG Manoj Sinha says one thing and the police do something entirely different as far as the detention of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is concerned.

Omar reacted on social media after the police deployed outside the Nigeen-based residence of Mirwaiz stopped journalists from interviewing him.

“The LG says one thing & the police does something entirely different. “We have instructions to stop him (Mirwaiz) from coming out and also to prevent visitors from going inside. We are only doing our duty. If the government gives us a different order, we will follow it,” Omar wrote on Twitter.

Pertinently, LG had claimed in an interview that Mirwaiz is not under house arrest and that the policemen deployed around him are for his safety and security.

The LG’s remarks were refuted by Mirwaiz-led All Party Hurriyat Conference which said that Mirwaiz has been under house arrest since August 4, 2019.
