SRINAGAR — National Conference President Farooq Abdullah on Saturday morning (11:30 AM) called an important meeting of the Party’s top decision making body, Political Affairs Committee to take a stock of rapidly changing political situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

Sources privy to developments at the National Conference headquarters said that while the members including Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, Ali Mohammad Sagar, Mustafa Kamal, Abdul Rahim Rather Mohammad Shafi Uri, Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan, Mian Altaf, Mir Saifullah, Sakeena Itoo, Shameema Firdous, Nisar Aslam, Aga Ruhullah, Kamar Ali Akhoon, Haneefa Jan, Shami Oberoi participated.

NC members of Political Affairs Committee from Jammu region participated via video conference while the members from Kashmir and Ladakh physically attended the meeting.

The agenda of the meeting is totally focused on discussions for strategy to be adopted for contesting the case filed in the Supreme Court of the country against the abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35-A and also the J&K Reorganisation Act 2019, enacted to divide the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir State.

Interestingly, this is the Party’s first high-powered meeting called by National Conference after the abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35-A and also bifurcation of erstwhile State into two Union territories.

Sources said that question of any compromise on restoration of Article 370, Article 35-A and bifurcation of erstwhile State into two Union territories does not arise at all. He said that Gupkar Declaration is a historical decision and all the signatories to this declaration are committed to it and there is no question of any signatory back-tracking over the commitments.
