Police foil PDP’s peaceful protest by detaining several leaders

SRINAGAR — Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday detained several leaders of Peoples Democratic Party in Summer capital city of Srinagar during a peaceful protest demonstration against detention of political prisoners, harassment of youth and media gag in the region.

PDP leader Rouf Bhat said that PDP had planned to hold a peaceful protest in Srinagar on Thursday by assembling at party headquarter in Polo View Srinagar at 11 AM.

The meet was supposed to be attended by PDP spokesman Suhail Bukhari and PDP secretary Abdul Hamid Kosheen who had also planned to present a memorandum to the administration.

The protesters tried to march towards Lal Chowk however, Police Station Kothibagh swung into action and detained many PDP leaders including Rouf Bhat, Hamid Qousheen, Shanti Singh and Mohd Amin.

PDP, on its official Twitter handle, said, “Police stops peaceful protest of PDP leaders against the detention of political prisoners, the harassment of youth, and the gag on media & rights violations. Police have now detained PDP leaders Rouf Bhat, Hamid Qousheen, Shanti Singh, Arif Laigroo & Mohammad Amin.
