Anantnag Police act against clerics for ‘inflammatory’ remarks

SRINAGAR — Anantnag Police have taken action against two religious clerics for using inflammatory language targeting a specific community, a police spokesman said on Saturday.

“The derogatory remarks made by the clerics including Mushtaq Ahmad Veeri and Abdul Rashid Dawoodi were brought to the attention of the Anantnag Police, who promptly initiated proceedings under the relevant provisions of the law,” a statement issued to the news agency KNO reads.

The statement reads that the clerics have been bound down to prevent further inflammatory speech.

“Anantnag Police are committed to maintaining communal harmony and ensuring the safety of all citizens. We urge the public to report any instances of hate speech or inflammatory language to the authorities immediately,” police said.

It is requested that everyone refrain from such behaviour. The police are dedicated to addressing and preventing hate speech to ensure peace and unity within the community, the statement said.
