Friday prayers again disallowed in Jamia Masjid Srinagar

SRINAGAR — Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid Srinagar said that as the year ends, Central Jamia Masjid in Srinagar continues to remain closed for Friday prayers and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq also continues to be under house arrest for the third year in a row since 2019.

Anjuman in a statement said that the mosque has been forcibly locked down for 45 Fridays in this year and consecutively for 21 Fridays so far.

It said that in the previous five years from 2016 to 2020, Jamia Majid has been locked down for 112 Fridays.

Anjuman said that people of Kashmir, Ulemas and the Anjuman have repeatedly been urging the authorities to allow people to offer Friday prayers in Jamia Masjid and release the Mirwaiz of Kashmir.

Anjuman also urged the authorities to stop this ‘grave injustice’ against the Muslims of the valley and open up the mosque to the people and also release Mirwaiz.
