BUDGAM — The annual Urs of Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani (RA), popularly known as Sheikh-ul-Alam, was observed at Charar-i-Sharief in Budgam district on Wednesday with great religious fervour.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Pro-tem Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Mubarak Gul, paid their respects at the revered shrine and prayed for peace and prosperity in the region.
According to the news agency KNO, thousands of devotees from across the valley flocked to the Charar-i-Sharief shrine, where special prayers and supplications were held. Religious scholars highlighted the life, teachings and spiritual legacy of the saint, who dedicated his life to the preaching of Islam.
Devotees recited Darood and Naats, and many were seen distributing toffees, almonds and walnuts at the shrine.
Nightlong prayers took place on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, with devotees continuing to visit the shrine throughout the day. The Urs celebrations will continue until Friday.
