Aakash 2 features Android 4.0, 800 MHz ARM Cortex processor, 256 MB RAM and just 2 GB of internal storage

New Delhi: The second iteration of the cheapest tablet of the world, Aakash, would be launched soon, the human resources minister Kapil Sibal has said.
“The Aakash 2 tablet will be launching very soon,” Sibal said while addressing the first convocation in Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) in Hyderabad.
The upgraded version of the low cost tablet Aakash, which is known as the Aakash 2, was unveiled earlier this year by IIT Mumbai and DataWind. It was earlier expected to be launched towards the end of August or early September this year and this statement of Sibal has further reinvigorated the rumours.
Aakash 2 features Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system and Datawind has already started the delivery of the tablet across the country in the wake of the upcoming launch.
Aakash 2 tablet will include a more powerful 800 MHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor, a 7 inch capacitive multi-touchscreen. However, like the previous version, the Aakash 2 too will have a lowly 256 MB and 2 GB of internal storage, both of which looks inadequate for an Android 4.0 based device.
Aakash 2 tablet will run on a 3200 mAH Li-ion Polymer battery that will give the tablet a working time of 3 hours. It will come with WiFi and GPRS connectivity with SIM and mobile functionality but without 3G capability.
