IPL type T20 tournament to be organized in Pulwama soon: Haseeb Drabu

Pulwama: Minister for Finance, Labour, Employment & Culture, Dr Haseeb Drabu today said that the Sports Stadium at Pulwama would be upgraded with new infrastructure.
Speaking at the prize distribution ceremony of the maiden football tournament – Rajpora Gold Cup Football Tournament – at the Sports Stadium here today, Dr Drabu said besides upgrading the existing sports infrastructure in district Pulwama, new sports stadia and play-fields would developed in the district to tap the huge sports potential of the local youth and train them for national and international events.
Dr Drabu, who is also the Chief Patron of Pulwama Football Association, said after the successful culmination of the Football Tournament, a grand T20 Cricket Tournament would be organized in the district on the pattern of Indian Premiere League (IPL) to groom the budding cricket players.
Pertinently, it is for the first time that organized sports events are being held in district Pulwama on the initiative of Dr Drabu to tap the sports talent of the local youth and boost social interaction through various sports activities. Handing over cash prize of Rs 1 lakh to Rajpora Royals, the winners of Rajpora Gold Cup Football Tournament and Rs 50000 to the runners-up Saffron Super, Dr Drabu commended the various teams and players and the organizers for successfully organizing the maiden sports event in the district.
He also hailed the efforts of Jammu and Kashmir Football Association and CRPF for making the event a grand success. Six teams from the district participated in the 4-day Football Tournament which was co-sponsored by a group of young businessmen from Kashmir.
The Minister also presented a cheque to Mrs Safina Begum of Tral, whose husband Ghulam Mohammad, a CRPF constable was recently killed in a naxal attack in Chattisgarh.
Officials of the district administration besides large number of local spectators, prominent citizens, and school children were present on the occasion.
The locals hailed the efforts of Dr Drabu in kick-starting varied youth-specific activities in the district.
