Talent Hunt Premier League T20 cricket tournament underway

Srinagar: Minister of State for Industries and Commerce, Power, Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Mohammad Ashraf Mir Sunday said youth in the State have vast potential and talent in sports, and can perform at par with players at national and international levels, but need an enabling environment and an appropriate platform to perform better and exhibit talent. The Minister said this after inaugurating “Talent Hunt Premier League T20 Cricket Tournament” at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Sonawar in which as many as 32 cricket teams are participating. Addressing a well attended gathering, the Minister said that the said event is aimed to promote young talent and provide them a platform to show and explore their hidden talent. Underscoring need of promoting such sports activities, the Minister said sports are not only essential for a sound physical and mental health but also foster team spirit and discipline among participants. Mr. Mir said government is giving focused attention towards promotion of sports in the State.
He added that all measures are being taken for upgradation and modernizing sports infrastructure across the State and provide a platform to budding talent besides channelizing their capacity and capability in sports sector.
It was given out on the occasion that participants who perform best in the said event shall be given a chance to participate in similar events at state and national levels. The inaugural match was played between teams of Athwajan Cricket XI and Sonwar XI.
