SRINAGAR — The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was blocked on Saturday after fresh landslides, mudslides and shooting stones affected multiple stretches in Ramban district, leading authorities to suspend vehicular movement on the strategic road.
Officials said traffic would not be allowed from either side until the affected stretches are cleared and the highway is restored for safe movement.
The blockade has been reported in the Ramban sector, including the vulnerable stretch around Mehad, where landslides and continuous shooting stones have hampered traffic movement.
Men and machinery have been deployed for clearance work, while authorities are assessing the affected stretches and working to restore connectivity. Officials said the ongoing road clearance operation could take several hours depending on ground conditions and the movement of stones and debris.
Commuters have been advised not to undertake journeys on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway until further instructions from traffic authorities.
Other important routes in the region have also been affected by weather and road conditions, with restrictions reported on some stretches due to snow accumulation and maintenance work. The traffic situation remains subject to further assessment and official advisories.
Meanwhile, the Bandipora-Gurez road has been closed to vehicular movement following fresh snowfall at Razdan Top, with the district administration ordering suspension of traffic on the route until further orders.
An order issued by the Bandipora administration directed that all types of vehicular movement on the Bandipora-Gurez road remain suspended with immediate effect.
The closure follows fresh snowfall in the higher reaches around Razdan Top, which has affected road conditions on the important route connecting the Gurez Valley with the rest of Kashmir.
The road serves as a vital link for residents of Gurez and surrounding areas and remains particularly vulnerable to weather-related disruptions in the higher reaches.
Authorities are expected to assess road and weather conditions before deciding on reopening the route. Residents and travellers have been advised to follow official traffic and administration advisories and avoid attempting to use the closed stretch until movement is permitted.
