PULWAMA — A man from south Kashmir’s Pulwama district is seeking donations for the treatment of his sick son, who is suffering multiple organ failures.

Bashir Ahmad Bhat from Naroo (Narwa) village of the district is in a distressed situation as his son, Sartaj Ahmad Bhat (30), is seriously ill with both of his kidneys failing and also losing eyesight some six months ago.

Sartaj is the eldest son in the family and he has two younger brothers, four sisters (two of whom are married) apart from his father and mother.

“Being the eldest son, Sartaj worked in a private school as a peon two years ago to take care of some expenses at home, but as soon as he fell ill, he was bedridden,” Bashir Ahmad told The Kashmir Pulse. The entire burden of running the household is on Sartaj’s father who is himself only a daily-wage labourer.

The tragedy befell the family in 2020 when both kidneys of Sartaj failed and then things only turned worse with each passing day despite attempts by the family to get him treated. “The family, especially Sartaj’s father and some relatives, did whatever they could potentially do. However, it wasn’t sufficient,” a relative of the family, who didn’t wish to be identified, said.

About six months back, Sartaj lost his eyesight due to uncontrolled diabetes and when doctors saw his eyes, they said it was beyond cure and thus, permanent.

The family is now hoping to arrange a kidney transplant for Sartaj and see a good ophthalmologist outside the union territory. However, the treatment cost would be in lakhs of rupees, for which the family seeks donations into the personal bank account number of the patient.

Generous people, who want to give donations to the family, can make their donations in the following bank account number: 0485040100004865; Account Holder: Sartaj Ahmad Bhat; Bank Name: J&K Bank; Branch Name: Lajoora; IFSC Code: JAKA0LAJORA.
