Srinagar: In a statement issued here, PDP’s chief spokesman Rafi Ahmad Mir stated that the party since its inception has been on the forefront pitching for dialogue and reconciliation between the two countries so that a new era of peace is ushered in the state of Jammu and Kashmir that has been witnessing mayhem and bloodshed for decades.

“The state Governor must bear this glaring reality in mind that it is the people of Kashmir who have been bearing the brunt of hostilities between India and Pakistan and due to such arch rivalry between the two countries, the state has been converted into a war zone where death has become a permanent headline,” Mir said.

He added that the PDP’s stand has always been to pitch for thaw between India and Pakistan so that the already perturbed people in the violence infested state could heave a sigh of relief.

Mir said that every time the two countries come closer to each other and talk peace, the people of the state get respite from insurmountable predicament and party’s sole agenda is to bring two countries closer for the greater common good of Kashmiris.

PDP chief spokesman added that the former Prime Minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee made the promise from the land of Kashmir in the year 2004 that he will extend a hand of friendship to Pakistan and will settle the decades old conflict of Kashmir.

“That earnest gesture by Late Vajpayee made a difference and wounds that were reeking due to decades of violence subtly got healed. We demand the same approach and policy to be adopted by the present regime so that Kashmir could once again scan new horizons of peace and prosperity with eager hope,” Mir said.

He said both India and Pakistan should understand that until and unless Kashmir issue remains unattended and unresolved, the era of development and tranquillity would remain a distant dream for both of them.

“Dialogue has to be initiated with Pakistan. It is the only way through which the pending issues would get resolved and peoples’ lives could be safeguarded. The world has now understood the vitality of dialogue and reconciliation. PDP has been pitching since inception for the people to people contact between the divided parts of Kashmir, opening of more routes and making borders irrelevant – this is the only way forward and time is only vindicating the stand of the PDP and its founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed,” said the PDP chief spokesman.
