Middle-aged man arrested for raping 15-year-old relative in Srinagar

SRINAGAR — A middle-aged man has been arrested for raping a minor girl in central Kashmir’s Srinagar district, said police on Thursday afternoon.

As per the news agency CNS, they said that the arrested person, identified as Mohammad Iqbal Sheikh – who is a resident of Kupwara, but currently staying in Srinagar – raped a 15-year-old girl, who is a relative of the accused.

Following the incident, police registered a case under the relevant sections of the POCSO Act and arrested the accused person.

“Mohammad Iqbal Sheikh (aged 46 years) son of Ghulam Qadir Sheikh, resident of Kanthpora, Sogam Kupwara presently staying in Pamposh Colony, Srinagar arrested for raping a minor 15-year-old girl. The accused is a relative of the child. An FIR number 92/2023 U/S 352, 376, 506 IPC & 3/4 POCSO Act has been registered in Police Station Safakadal,” a spokesperson of Srinagar Police said.
