SRINAGAR — The Jammu and Kashmir Government has extended the benefit of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) to employees appointed against posts that were advertised or notified before the introduction of the New Pension Scheme (NPS), allowing eligible employees a one-time option to switch to the earlier pension framework.
The order was issued following a decision of the Council of Ministers and covers employees whose posts were advertised or notified before December 24, 2009, but who joined government service later and were consequently covered under the NPS.
Under the order, eligible employees can exercise the option for coverage under the Old Pension Scheme by submitting their choice through the proper channel within three months from the date of issuance of the order.
The government has stipulated that the option, once exercised, will be final.
Employees who fail to exercise the option within the prescribed three-month period will continue to remain covered under the New Pension Scheme.
The decision addresses the position of employees whose posts had been advertised before the introduction of the NPS but whose appointment and joining took place later, resulting in their coverage under the new pension system.
The order will allow eligible employees across Jammu and Kashmir to choose the pension framework applicable under the Old Pension Scheme, subject to the conditions laid down by the government.
