
SRINAGAR — Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday reported six deaths due to COVID-19 including a 38-year-old National Conference leader, taking the fatality count due to the virus in Jammu and Kashmir to 155.
Officials said the 38-year-old NC leader was serious and died this evening.
“He was admitted with severe respiratory tract infection. He was on oxygen since admission and put on ventilator yesterday evening,” Principal GMC Jammu said. He expired at 07:15 PM in isolation ward of GMC Jammu, he said.
“Sadly we lost Rohit (Kirni) a few minutes ago. He had been put on a ventilator but the medical teams, in spite of their best efforts, couldn’t stabilise him. He leaves behind a wife & two young kids,” party vice president and former chief minister Omar Abdullah tweeted.
Officials said that a 65-year-old woman from Kulgam died at SKIMS Bemina, one of the exclusive facilities meant for the management of COVID-19 patients in the Valley. The sexagenarian was referred from Kulgam and died this afternoon, Dr Shifa Deva, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, said.
“Having breathlessness, she was admitted at around 7 PM on July 08. She was having pneumonia, besides other underlying ailments such as hypertension,” she said.
Earlier in the day, 80-year-old, 60-year-old and 70-year-old women from Srinagar Baramulla, and Pulwama districts respectively died.
With these deaths, 140 people in Kashmir and 15 in Jammu division have died so far due to the virus.
Srinagar district with 39 deaths has the highest fatalities followed by Baramulla (31), Kulgam (18), Shopian (15), Anantnag (12), Budgam (11), Jammu (9), Kupwara (7), Pulwama (5), Bandipora (3), Doda (2) while one death each has been reported from Ganderbal, Poonch, Udhampur, Rajouri and Kathua.
