SRINAGAR — The government on Thursday said that the schools in Kashmir division shall commence class work from March 4 instead of March 1 in view of inclement weather.

According to the news agency KNO, Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) Tassaduq Hussain Mir in an order said that the extension in winter vacation was announced in view of the weather advisory issued by the Meteorological Department predicting heavy snowfall in the valley.

“Classwork in all government and recognised private schools of the Kashmir Division up to the higher secondary level shall commence from 4th March, 2024,” it reads.

Earlier on February 21, the teaching staff of educational institutes in Kashmir Valley were reopened for teaching staff of the School Education Department following the more than two-month-long winter vacation.

Pertinently, the government in December 2023 had ordered the closure of schools in a phased manner in the Kashmir division from November 28, 2023 to February 29, 2024.

For primary level classes up to 8th standard, the vacations were announced from November 28, 2023 to February 29, 2024 and from the 9th standard onwards up to 12th standard, the vacations were announced from December 11, 2023 to February 29, 2024 respectively.

DSEK, however, has ordered that the teaching staff report back to their respective schools on February 21, 2024, so that they remain available for making arrangements regarding the preparation of ensuing examinations.
