Shooting for Kollywood movie gets underway in Pahalgam

SRINAGAR — Authorities have granted permission to shoot at least 230 movies and web series in Kashmir. “Permissions have been granted to shoot over 230 Bollywood movies and web series in Kashmir. Some movies from Chennai are also being shot here,” a senior official told the news agency KINS.

J&K Government launched a new film policy in the presence of actor Amir Khan and filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani to give a new lease of hope and to attract industry people back towards Kashmir. A single-window mechanism has been started by J&K Film Development Council to facilitate hassle-free shooting here.

Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar was recently all praise for Kashmir’s hospitality which he received during his film shoot for ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’ in the valley.

Johar, in a video clip shared by J&K’s Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) on Twitter, said that he visited Kashmir after 11 years and was overwhelmed. “We have received so much love here while filming. Coming back after 11 years has been so special for me. Thank you all,” he said while acknowledging the role of administration and police. “Our wish is to come back every year with a new film,” he said.

Recently, Sanjay Dutt was in Pahalgam to shoot for his debut Tamil film Thalapathy 67 a.k.a Leo. Similarly, actors Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt were also seen shooting in Kashmir for Karan Johar’s film ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’.

Earlier, Karan had thought to shoot in Switzerland, however, then decided to come to Kashmir so more film units visit here.

Filmmakers of Tamil industry Kollywood are also shooting in south Kashmir’s Pahalgam. Two famous superstars of the Tamil film industry Vijay Chandrashekhar and Trisha Krishnan are shooting here. Many other movies and web series are also being shoot here.

A single-window mechanism has been started by Jammu and Kashmir Film Development Council to facilitate hassle-free shooting. Filmmakers are applying online at jkfilm.jk.gov.in. A filmmaker can choose a location and book it online and can avail of incentives offered by the administration.
