Geelani appeals for peace in Rajouri

Srinagar: Calling Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Parveen Togadia a ‘psychiatric patient’, Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani has urged the religious communities in Rajouri to maintain peace and clam and not fall prey to what he said the “nefarious designs” of New Delhi in disturbing the communal harmony in the state.
In a statement, Geelani who claims to have been put under house arrest for the seventh consecutive day on Friday urged people to maintain communal harmony. “You must maintain the ages old communal harmony and disapprove the designs of the policy makers in New Delhi who work day and night to dupe the freedom movement as a Hindu-Muslim clash, Hurriyat spokesman quoted Geelani as saying.
Blaming state government for allowing Togadia to enter Rajouri and make ‘hate speech’, Geelani said, “The real culprit is the state administration who allowed a psychiatric patient like Togadia to enter Rajouri.”
However, he was quick to add, “Even though it seems the handiwork of Togadia but he is not all alone in creating the trouble. There are plenty of people and policy makers in New Delhi who have been working round the clock to bring the movement to disrepute.”
Geelani vowed that Kashmiris have been the ambassadors of communal harmony and brotherhood since ages and “even if it got disturbed anytime it was due to Hindu fundamentalist groups.”
“In 1947, Hindu fundamentalists brought havoc in the state and killed lakhs of Jammu based Muslims,” Geelani alleged, adding that now again people like Togadia are trying to repeat the history.
The Hurriyat chairman appealed people of both the communities to understand what he said the conspiracies of the fundamentalist powers and make very possible effort to live happily and with mutual coordination.
