Srinagar: One ITBP (Indo Tibetan Border Police) trooper was killed and 34 others were injured when a bus, they were traveling in, met with an accident near Khooni Nalllah on Srinagar-Jammu highway on Monday.
Reports reaching here said that the bus carrying 35 ITBP men skidded off the road near Khoni Nallah and rolled down into a deep gorge.
“They were returning back after being deployed for election duties in the recently concluded Panchayat Polls in the state.”
Station House Officer (SHO) concerned, Vijay Kotwal said over phone that one personnel of ITBP has been killed while 29 others have been evacuated so far and removed to the nearby hospital. He said that condition of five of them is stated to be critical.
Deputy Commissioner, Ramban Showkat Aijaz said that a rescue operation has been launched. He confirmed the death of one personnel so far, 29 personnel have been evacuated and five of them are critical and are being airlifted to GMC Jammu.
He confirmed that the ITBP men were returning from Srinagar and were on way to Jammu. (GNS)
