Two militants, soldier killed in Doda gunfight

DODA — Two militants were killed in Gundna area in Doda district while a Army man was also killed in the encounter that broke out between government forces and militants on Sunday morning.

Reports reaching here said that two militants of Hizbul Mujahideen were killed in the gunbattle. One of the militant killed in the encounter has been identified as Tahir alias Uqaab from Pulwama.

“On a specific police input, an operation was launched late last night in Doda district. The encounter began in the morning,” police spokesperson and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Manoj Sheeri said.

The officials said that joint teams of Army’s Rashtriya Rifles, Police and CRPF launched the operation on Saturday night after inputs were received about the presence of two suspected militants inside a house.

As the search parties were moving towards the target area, they came under heavy fire which was retaliated, the officials said.

Meanwhile, the identification of another militant is being ascertained, an official said.
