With Yatra concluding on August 15, sources said, additional deployment of 100 more companies of CAPFs is an indication that the Center is considering to take some policy decisions which may result in civilian unrest.

They said that National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and some top intelligence officials have been camping in Kashmir for the past some days to get a first-hand account of the prevailing ground situation in the Valley.

“The NSA and top officials of intelligence agencies met several people, including those from the security grid, and some politicians in close door meetings away from the media glare,” sources privy to the development said.

Meanwhile, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has criticized the Centre’s decision to deploy the additional 10,000 troops in the Valley.

In a tweet, Mehbooba Mufti said, “Centre’s decision to deploy additional 10,000 troops to the Valley has created fear psychosis amongst people.”

She further wrote, “There is no dearth of security forces in Kashmir. J&K is a political problem which won’t be solved by military means. GOI needs to rethink & overhaul its policy.”
