After initial shootout, no fresh firing in Shopian

SHOPIAN — After initial exchange of fire between government forces and militants in Gadipora Ratnipora area of Shopian, no fresh contact was established.

Local sources said that they heard firing at around 2:30 AM and it continued for about half an hour.

Official sources also confirmed that searches are on in the area and no fresh contact has been established yet.

“We have inputs about the presence of two to three militants in the area and more reinforcement has been rushed to the spot,” they said.

Earlier, on specific inputs about the presence of militants in the area, a joint team of forces including 34 RR and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a search operation in the area.

On intensifying the search operation towards the suspected spot, hiding militants fired upon the forces which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.
