A view of private transport on one of the roads in Srinagar city

PULWAMA — Acting upon the complaints against a popular motor vehicle dealer based in Srinagar for selling BS-IV vehicles without provisional registration and based on the findings submitted by ARTO, Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Dr. Raghav Langer has initiated action against the erring dealer.

In this regard, an order has been issued against the erring dealers who have failed to provide registration certificate to its customers who have purchased BS-IV vehicles from their showroom.

Earlier, show cause notice was issued by ARTO Pulwama to the said dealer who failed to furnish the provisional registration certificate which pursuant to Section 43 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 is mandatory for dealership.

DC has asked RTO Kashmir to investigate the matter and to suspend the Trade license of the erring dealer in view of such BS-IV vehicles that have been sold by the concerned dealer without doing online temporary registration.

As per the directions of the Hon’ble Apex Court, BS-IV vehicles were to be sold before March 31, 2020. The district authorities suspect that dealers had been selling these vehicles beyond the due date by doing back dated invoicing.

Meanwhile, such customers have to wait till a decision in this regard is taken by the Government regarding permanent registration of such vehicles.

RTO Kashmir has been requested by Pulwama district authorities to conduct an in-depth enquiry as this malpractice may be deep-rooted with many such instances in other districts as well.
