Civilian killed in grenade blast at Maharaj Gunj area in Srinagar

SRINAGAR — A former employee of the Power Development Department was killed while another civilian was injured in a grenade blast at Maharaj Gunj area of Srinagar on Friday evening.

According to reports, suspected militants tossed a grenade at Maharaj Gunj area of the Old City in which two persons sustained injuries.

A former PDD employee Ghulam Nabi Ahanger (62) of Aishan Sahab, Zaina Kadal received multiple splinter injuries and was removed to the hospital where he succumbed, while another civilian identified as Muhammad Rafiq Shalla (42) of Kanimazar area of Nawakadal was also injured in the explosion.

CRPF spokesman Neeraj Rathore confirmed the incident. Police and other security forces cordoned off the area and a massive manhunt was launched to nab the attackers.
