Srinagar: Two militants were killed in a gunfight with the government forces in Zugoo Arizal area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Thursday.
The gunfight broke out after a joint team of Army’s 53RR, SOG and CRPF laid a siege around Zugoo, Arizal after receiving credible inputs about the presence of some militants in the area.
Quoting a senior police official, news agency GNS reported that two militants have been killed in the gunfight.
It said that two weapons have been recovered from the site of the gunfight.
The identity of the slain militants is yet to be ascertained, the report quoted the official.
The officer said that searches are going on in the area.
Meanwhile, mobile internet service has been snapped in the Budgam district.
As soon as the news of the killing of two militants spread in the area, people hit the streets in Harde Panzu and Arizal villages.
The protesters clashed with government forces.
An eye witness said the government forces fired several tear gas shells to disperse the protestors. (GKNN)
